Solution to AOSREMPHE

[This is the intended solution to the puzzle-huntish puzzle AOSREMPHE posted earlier]

The puzzle was just this image:


Solution


If you looked at the hint, it stated "AOSREMPHE is an anagram".

One such anagram is SEMAPHORE.

SEMAPHORE is a reference to flag semaphore, commonly used in such puzzles.

Flag Semaphore is used by navies as a way to encode the alphabet to help two ships communicate visually.

For instance, A encodes as



If you look at the first triangle, the angle corresponds to the letter A!

If you decode the puzzle image, you see that you will get ALTERINGS, which is the same permutation of TRIANGLES, as AOSREMPHE is of SEMAPHORE (ALTERINGS is also an anagram hint a-la cryptic crosswords).

So the intended answer is TRIANGLES.

[The image does contain a bunch of triangles :-)]
